03
What is construction style / type?

We have four styles of footwear construction.  Each construction style differs by the level of stiffeners built inside the footwear.  Footwear stiffeners are structural components integrated into footwear to provide support, stability, and shape to specific shoe areas such as the heel, sides and toe areas.

Rehabilitation footwear offer a higher level of support than high street footwear,  Stability footwear offers an even higher level of support with high and extended stiffeners, our AFO footwear provide extra room to accommodate splints or ankle foot orthoses (AFO’s) and our Reverse Lasted models are for children with club foot or extreme foot adduction (only available to medical professionals).

More information on our construction styles can be found on our products by construction page – please click on each construction style for more information.

What are the benefits of wearing the right size and width orthopaedic footwear?

Wearing the right size and width of footwear is crucial for adults for several reasons:

  1. Comfort: Properly fitting shoes ensure comfort throughout the day. Too tight shoes can cause discomfort, blisters, and pain, while shoes that are too loose can lead to instability and rubbing.
  2. Prevention of Foot Problems: Ill-fitting shoes can contribute to various foot problems, such as bunions, corns, calluses, hammertoes, and ingrown toenails. Wearing shoes with the correct size and width can help prevent these issues from developing or worsening.
  3. Improved Posture and Alignment: Shoes that fit correctly provide proper foot support, which can improve posture and alignment. Helping to reduce strain on the feet, ankles, knees, hips, and back, potentially alleviating associated pain and discomfort.
  4. Enhanced Performance: For everyday activities or sports, wearing shoes that fit well can improve performance by providing better stability, traction, and support.
  5. Reduced Risk of Injury: Properly fitting shoes can reduce the risk of sprains, strains, and fractures by providing adequate foot support and cushioning.
  6. Better Circulation: Shoes that are too tight can restrict blood flow to the feet, leading to numbness, tingling, and discomfort. Wearing shoes with the correct size and width promotes better circulation.
  7. Long-Term Foot Health: By wearing correctly fitting footwear, adults can maintain the health of their feet in the long term, reducing the likelihood of developing chronic foot conditions and minimizing the need for medical intervention.

Overall, wearing the right size and width of footwear is essential for adults to ensure comfort, prevent foot problems, promote proper posture and alignment, enhance performance, reduce the risk of injury, improve circulation, and maintain long-term foot health.
